CAYAD – Community Action on Youth and Drugs

CAYAD is a Ministry of Health funded project to reduce drug-related harm for young people.
The overarching health outcomes are:

  • Increased community ownership and capability to address drug-related issues
  • Reduced drug-related harm
  • Improved health and wellbeing of New Zealanders

There are four key outcomes we work towards:

  • Increased informed community discussion and debate about issues related to drugs.
  • Effective policies and practices to reduce harm adopted
  • Increased local capacity to support young people in education, employment and recreation.
  • Reduced supply of drugs to young people.

Our work is supported by our Reference Group, which has local representation from Tasman District Council, Nelson City Council, MSD Nelson office, Nelson YMCA, Nelson Bays Primary Health, Nelson Police Youth Services, Nelson Tasman Settlement Support and Te Kahui Hauora o Ngati Koata.
